My sister, Jeannie and her husband, Peter, are truly blessed to have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past weekend. Fifty years ago I was privileged to be their Maid of Honor. I was still in high school and just thought it was wonderful. The years have just flown by. Through those years both have been a very important part of my life. They have helped me through many difficult times, and they are both responsible for me going to the Cleveland Clinic to have open heart surgery. If it wasn’t for them, I really believe I wouldn’t be typing this today. They have been my life line many times. I knew I had to do something special for them, but I had no idea what. I bought them a real neat gift at Williams and Sonoma. A pepper and salt grinder that works just by tipping them over. Both are excellent cooks and I knew they would think of me every time they used them. But that wasn’t enough. I had to do something special and personal. I cleared away my craft table and got to work. I made them a box wedding cake and decorated it with vintage materials. The tops of the boxes open and the bottoms are glued to the above tops. I worked around the clock to get it ready and mailed in time for their day. It arrived a day early. Below are the pictures of their wedding boxes.
This is the front of the cake. It is sitting on one of my boxes filled with flowers. The square box is not part of the cake.
Back of cake.
TopI have been saving that rhinestone crown for ages. I hated to part with it, put I couldn’t think of a better use for using it.
The back. I put P & J on the back.
All the lace on the boxes are from a vintage wedding gown.
That’s a vintage earring on the right side of the picture.
This was a labor of love. I wish them another 50 years! I love you both!
Blessings!
That is absolutely stunning!! What a wonderful anniversary gift.
